Carrie Poff, a Wyoming native, holds a BA in Studio Art with a Minor in Archaeology, from the University of Wyoming. Being a business owner allowed her to be a stay-at-home mom to her two young children, Alex and Avery, while running the business from home during its inception.
A 2018 Platinum award winner of the Gauntlet Business Plan Competition and a member the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA), Carrie's diverse background in program management, technical editing, graphic design, education, and institutional research has enabled her to rapidly grow her successful tree service company.
She recently learned to delegate, and has passed the torch to Jamey and James. Now, she provides marketing solutions and helps makes the BIG decisions. When not working behind the scenes at Brown Hound, Carrie loves to garden and create
mixed media art.

James Poff, a Roanoke native and International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist, grew up swinging from trees like a monkey and has 10 years
of experience removing and trimming
his old friends.
When James and Carrie's son Alexander was born in August of 2014, James made the tough decision to leave the job he had had for 10 years to strike out on his own to build something his son could one day be proud of. What started out as a handyman service has grown into a tree service company that James is excited to continue building.
His vision for Brown Hound Tree Service is three-fold: to save people money; to make people happy; and to convey to his clients that he respects their trees as dear old friends who deserve a way to be remembered when removed. As such, his plans include opening a shop to sell goods made from the trees which are taken down, while offering each client the option to purchase a handmade item made from their tree.
Jamey is our bridge between sanity and chaos, bringing solutions that are outside the box. We often refer to him as (drum roll please) "The Solutionist."
He has been there through all of the company's ups and down, and has helped to guide us when the fog was too thick. Truly, he has helped Carrie and James build this business, and we owe him a mountain of gratitude.
An integral cog in our wheel, Jamey creates systems, runs estimates, and only sometimes drives us crazy. He's a gamer, a father, and a pretty awesome "uncle."
We think we'll keep him.

Dee is simply Dee-lightful! When you call in, you'll see. Married to her hubby Mark since '93, she has two dogs (Charlee and Dixie), 2 children, 2 grandkids (and more on the way!), and 2 grandpups! She loves the beach, shell hunting, and fishing, cooking and quilting. Her quilts are out of this world amazing! She loves to meet new people, and she says she's a talker but we love to listen; her stories are great!
Michael loves trees. In fact, he loves them so much, he got an Associates of Applied Science degree from Dabney S. Lancaster Community College in Forest Management Technology with a specialization in Arboriculture. He knows some stuff. With a heart of gold, he loves volunteering for VA 4-H and spending time with his family. He is also really good at making up songs about Brown Hound.

Anne, aka "Sparky," is super outdoorsy and loves sharing this passion with her children (whom she loves dearly). She fancies camping, building campfires (<insert inside joke here>), and stargazing. Anne is also incredibl y athletic; she plays tennis, soccer, basketball, and is a bicycler. If there’s live music to be had, she’ll be there. While indoors, she enjoys cooking and playing chess.
Bri is pretty much a Rockstar when it comes to running heavy equipment and rigging. With 8 years in the tree care industry and an insatiable appetite for tacos and donuts, she is truly invaluable. Bri loves spending time outdoors, adventuring with friends (who also like tacos and donuts), and hanging out with her family and dog Jax. She also just had a beautiful baby girl (and she worked in the field into her 3rd trimester- ROCK. STAR.) She's currently on leave but we're leaving this here because she'll be back...she always comes back.
Mr. Fix It. Mike-gyver. Magic Mike (no, not like the movie). He goes by many names. He's a mechanical and money-saving wizard. While not working (which he says is one of his favorite things), he enjoys camping, wood working, tinkering on mechanical projects, and spending time with his two adopted sons and his beautiful wife.
Trayle is a family man. When not working hard at Brown Hound, he loves to spend time with his kiddos, tend to his chickens, ducks, and turkeys, cats and dogs. Okay, so he's not JUST a family man...he's an animal person, too. He's also good at building and fixing things! And yes, that smile is the real deal. He loves working at Brown Hound!
Matt has been in the tree care industry many many moons, and truly raises the bar when it comes to getting a job site cleaned up. He works like someone half his age! He has many interests, which include music, playing the gitfiddle, and playing basketball. He's a great short-order cook, and we want him to start a Brown Hound food truck so he can make us lunches on the go, or breakfast (because he's always early to work).
He has a girlfriend who has 2 kids and he loves them all to pieces.

Brandon is about as hard-working as they come. With drive such as his, he can be hard to keep up with, but he motivates others. He loves to fish, work, work hard, work some more, go home and work, and play later.

Ms. Juby Poff is the original Brown Hound and inspiration for the company name. You've never met a dog like her, and really, we haven't either 'cause we still ain't sure she's a dog. Part deer, kangaroo, whippet, Jack Russell, and a who-knows-what, she is quite honestly the craziest mutt we've ever done seen and is fit to be a mascot.
We started Brown Hound when our son was a week old, and he's seen a lot in his 8 years. He's seen his parents grow a business from change in their sofa and he's seen the business go through its OWN growing pains. He's a ham; he's mastered the one eyebrow raise, likes to organize his things, and he keeps his crew (his little sister) in check. This company would not exist without him.
This little lady says she's going to be the boss of Brown Hound one day. She wears a shirt that says, "Strong Like Mommy." The fine print says, "I'm All Sass." She definitely has an independent spirit and we can see her running her own company one day. She's made it clear to her brother that she doesn't like being bossed around.
